Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much are the meals if you provide them?

We provide dinner on the night of your arrival as well as any additional nights that you are here. We also provide a full breakfast (fresh fruit cup, assorted muffins, entrée, bacon, sausage, home fries and toast) as well as an optional bag lunch that we will put into a picnic basket with a blanket if you want to go out exploring if you are here for two days. All of these options are included in the price of the room! If you decide not to have the meals, we do not discount the price. Guests enjoy this amenity since they do not have to find a place to eat or one that is open since many are closed on Monday and/or Tuesday.

  • We are attending a wedding at the Mountain Top Inn and Resort. Are you close to there?

Yes, we are about two miles (5-7 minutes) away at the bottom of the mountain. If it is prearranged, there is even a shuttle to take you to and from there.

  • I have food allergies and my partner only eats certain foods. Is that a problem?

Not at all. When you make your reservation, we ask if there are any dietary restrictions and/or dislikes and we do our best to accommodate them when planning our menus. Many of our baked items (cookies, muffins, some bread and desserts) are gluten-free but you cannot even tell! We have prepared meals that are vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, keto friendly, etc. Rita loves preparing a menu to accommodate all!

  • Our son or daughter will be coming with us for our stay. Is there a place for him or her? This is a frequently asked question?

We have the Barstow Family Suite on the first floor that is perfect for this scenario. The suite is divided into two rooms, each with its own bathroom. One room has a queen-size bed and the other has a pull-out sofa that opens into a twin bed. A door separates the two rooms and each has its own exit into a common hallway off the Dining Room.

  • We want to stay for several days. What is there to do?

The Fox Creek Inn is centrally located in Chittenden, Vermont. There are many hiking trails including the Appalachian and Long Trails nearby. You can also ski at Killington and Pico fifteen minutes away or cross-country ski at Mountain Top Inn and Resort. Kayaking is at its best at the beautiful Chittenden Reservoir (only five minutes away). You can travel north to Middlebury, Shelburne or Burlington, west to Lake George, east to Woodstock and south to Manchester and Bennington. All no more than two hours away! Check out our Experiences tab.

  • We want to fly to Vermont. Where is the closest airport?

There are two airports nearby—Burlington International Airport or Albany International Airport. They are about 1 ½ to 2 hours away. You can either rent a car or pay for an UBER to bring you here. Unfortunately it is not feasible for us to provide transportation to these places. CapeAir also flies into Rutland Regional Airport with flights to and from Boston.

  • What if I want to take a train?

Amtrak has a station in Rutland, fifteen minutes away. You would take the Ethan Allen express to the James Jeffords station in Rutland. We can pick you up from there with advance notice. The Vermonter is another option but the station is in Windsor, one hour away and you would need to arrange for transportation to the Fox Creek Inn.

  • I love my dog. Do you allow pets?

We love animals too and have our own dog but he is not allowed on the other side of the inn since we advertise that we are dander-free. Even if the dog may not shed, we cannot allow animals of any kind at the inn.

  • I am an early riser. Can I get coffee?

We have a Keurig coffee machine that is on 24/7 when guests are at the Fox Creek Inn. We offer a wide selection of regular, decaf and seasonal blends. There is also hot water for tea, hot cocoa or cider. Cold water is also available in the refrigerator.

  • I bought some Vermont cheese and craft beers. Where can I keep them cold?

We have a red refrigerator in the Dining Room especially for you. Please feel free to use it for your items.

  • Do you serve alcohol? I enjoy wine with my dinner.

While we do not have a Liquor License, we do allow you to bring your own alcoholic beverages. Just remember that whatever you bring in, you must either drink or bring home.

  • Can I smoke in my room or anywhere on the property?

Vermont State Law does not permit smoking in the rooms. Our smoke detectors are very sensitive! If you wish to smoke, you can smoke by the firepit.

  • Do you offer any discounts?

We do offer discounts depending on the number of nights you stay. Please check out our Packages tab. The longer you stay, the more you save per night!

  • What can I expect for the meals?

The meals are home-cooked comfort foods. Dinner consists of an appetizer, an entrée, side dishes and a dessert. Having a special occasion? Let us know and we will prepare a special meal just for you. Breakfast includes a fresh fruit cup, assorted muffins, entrée, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast. Lunch is made-to-order with a sandwich (choice of bread, ham/turkey or peanut butter and jelly, cheese, lettuce and tomato), snack (chips, baby carrots, Make Your Own Trail Mix), dessert (Silo cookie or Rice Krispie treat) and fruit (apple, orange, banana).
